Updated goodie: Aperture File Types v1.1

Aperture file types

I missed to put an icon for .MRW-files in the first version. So the new zip-file contains the new icon for .MRW-files in all formats.

These icons are free for your personal use and include icons for all file types Apple’s Aperture 2 can handle (.jpeg, .gif, .tiff, .png, .pdf, .psd, .arw, .cr2, .crw, .mos, .nef, .raf, .raw, .srw, .tif, .oly, .fff, .3fr, .dng, .mrw)

  • Mac + Win + Linux + iContainer
  • Leopard ready (512×512)
  • custom 32px and 16px icons

Get them from the goodies-page under the same link as before.

And don’t forget to read my article about how to change the generic image icons in Mac OS X Leopard.

    hi and welcome,

here are some infos how you can use these icons.

the standard app for images in mac os x is preview.app and therefore every image should be represented with an icon with the preview-icon and the filetype in three letters under it. remember that this is just the case if you turn off symbol preview in finders view option since leopard automatically generates a preview of the image as its icon.

and since preview.app is used to show the icons we can find all image type icons in Preview.app > Contents > Resources. Sadly Preview don’t have an unique icon for all RAW file types. Instead it uses just a generic RAW-icon named RAW.icns

So here’s what you can do: Grab your desired RAW-file icon from my icon package in icns-format. Rename it as RAW.icns. Copy it over to Preview.app > Contents > Resources and overwrite the standard icon. Making a backup copy of Preview.app before doing that is a wise thing here.

The problem is that from now on every RAW-file is represented by this icon, which is a problem if you use more than one RAW format. A solution to this mess could be photoshop which really have a unique file icon for every RAW format. just make photoshop the standard app for your RAW-files and the icon should change.

The icons from Photoshop are stored in Adobe Photoshop CS3.app > Contents > Resources. the icon e.g. for .cr2-icons is named PS_CR2FileIcon.icns.
